Ubisoft

Ubisoft's dropping their first blockchain game called Champion Tactics Grimoria, and it's got the whole gaming world buzzing! They just rolled out the gameplay trailer at Paris Blockchain Week, and it's all about this tactical PvP RPG where you can create your own unique, blockchain-based figurines. You team up three of these heroes for some intense turn-based battles.

The game's got that classic Ubisoft polish—think sick graphics and smooth animations that really make the strategy play pop. You gotta mix and match your squad to find the best combos to take down other players.

Nicolas Pouard from Ubisoft's Strategic Innovation Lab spilled that they're easing into blockchain games with this one instead of going full AAA out of the gate. They're focusing on building a whole universe in the game that’s centered around these champion figurines which you can craft and own for real, thanks to the blockchain.

Also, they're partnering with Oasys and using this LayerZero tech to make everything work smoothly across different gaming platforms. Ubisoft's aiming to show they can drop a legit Web3 game where players really own their digital stuff. They're all about giving gamers the reins to shape the game world with their own collections of digital heroes.

GrtWines

There's this new Web3 marketplace called GrtWines that's about to shake up how we invest in fine wines. Co-founded by big shots like former CLSA bigwig Jonathan Slone and wine guru James Suckling, this platform is making vintage and fine wines way more accessible by tokenizing them. Basically, you can buy digital certificates tied to real bottles of top-tier wine that chill in optimal storage until you're ready to pop them open or sell them off.

This whole idea taps into the booming wine market which is expected to hit $60 billion in the U.S. by 2024 just from sales in supermarkets, bars, and the like. Victor Yin, the tech brain at GrtWines, says this move is a game-changer for both the digital asset scene and the wine world, making high-class wine investment transparent and way less exclusive.

They're kicking things off with "The Jefferson Collection," nodding to Thomas Jefferson's well-known wine love. Jonathan Slone is all about preserving wine heritage while creating a community vibe where everyone can get a piece of the action. It’s not just about wine, though. Luxury goods like art and fancy watches are also getting the tokenization treatment, proving that even high-end items can play in the digital realm.

Healthcare in the Metaverse

The metaverse is totally shaking up how we think about traveling for medical care. Think of it as virtual worlds where geography doesn't tie you down. Companies like Omnia Health and scholars from the Iranian Journal of Public Health are all over this, seeing big potential for telemedicine in the metaverse to change the game for medical tourists. That’s people jetting off to other countries to snag medical treatments that might be cheaper or better than what they can get at home.

So, imagine checking out hospitals or even chilling in a virtual version of your destination before you even book your flight. This kind of tech could hype up patients about their trip and chill out their pre-surgery nerves by letting them tour places and prep for what’s coming. It’s not just about better vibes, though. It makes the whole doctor-patient thing smoother, leading to happier patients and better care outcomes.

And yeah, the bucks are big here. Despite a slowdown from the pandemic, the medical tourism scene was valued at about $47 billion in 2024 and is expected to balloon to over $111 billion by 2030. There’s even this hospital called Thumbay that’s diving into offering patient services in the metaverse, letting you pay with crypto. It's like the future of health and travel just collided and it’s wild!
